What is the Orton-Gillingham Approach?
Orton-Gillingham is an approach used to help remediate dyslexics. It incorporates reading with spelling and the direct and explicit teaching of rules. OG is multi-sensory meaning it incorporates several senses simultaneously. Although this approach was originally designed to be used one-on-one, it has demonstrated effectiveness for use with small and large group instruction. For students who are several years below grade level in their language skills, OG’s diagnostic and prescriptive techniques allow the tutoring sessions to go as fast as they can and as slow as they must.
